Dealing with depleted SAGD
His lift choice: metal to metal PCP
How do you boost pressure in a SAGD project? In particular, how do you boost pressure near a depleted well pair? How do you stop steam injection from leaking into the depleted area?
In order to support pressure in his operating steam chambers, he's injecting steam and gas into already depleted steam chambers.
This operator received approval to inject steam and non-condensable gas into a depleted SAGD pair. He hopes to aid nearby operating well pairs.

He believes that steam is leaking from operating well pairs into an already depleted area. He's concerned that this will reduce recovery. Since he's injecting into a depleted area, his steam oil ratio (SOR) will be climbing, which means his costs will also be rising.
Interestingly, this is his only use of non-condensable gas injection. He hasn't used it anywhere else in the scheme. We found this information using AppIntel.
He's also using metal to metal progressive cavity pumps in a lower reservoir pressure environment. These pumps have no elastomer in the stator and therefore can be used in high temperature environments.
Each AER application contains your neighbor's perspective on the exploitation of oil and gas formations. Applications contain more technical data even than SPE papers.
